Acute Respiratory Virus Infections of Childhood

Professor Sir Charles Herbert Stuart-Harris delivered his Semon Lecture on October 31st 1963 at the Royal Society of Medicine. Within this lecture, he gives a self-proclaimed ‘progress report’ on the current knowledge of acute respiratory infections in childhood due to viruses. He also highlights that despite a speeding up of discovery, there are still large gaps in our knowledge of these conditions.

Charles Stuart-Harris was born on the 12th of July 1909 in Birmingham, England. Throughout his career he displayed a great interest in research, especially with regards to influenza and the possibilities for immunity with vaccination. As a result of the importance of his work, he was awarded a C.B.E. in 1961 and nine years later a Knight Bachelor.
