Professor Jarrod Homer presented his Semon Lecture on the 1st of November 2024 at the Royal Society of Medicine, entitled “Consensus, guidelines and best practice: Can we improve head and neck outcomes further?” In the lecture, he discussed the purpose of guidelines, the challenges involved and how these can improve outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer, as well as implications for ENT-based head and neck surgeons in the future. – Written by Professor Jarrod Homer

Professor Jarrod Homer is a consultant head and neck surgeon and has a chair in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is recognised for his surgical expertise, clinical leadership, research, and professional leadership through various roles with national organisations. He is co-editor of the current UK Multidisciplinary Guidelines for Head and Neck Cancer and the National ENT Cancer lead for the current NHS England GIRFT/National Cancer Program review of Head and Neck Cancer Services. He is passionate about head and neck cancer and is determined to contribute to improving outcomes for all patients.
