Professor Jarrod Homer is a consultant surgeon at The Manchester Head and Neck Centre, Manchester University Foundation NHS Trust, and also has a chair in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Manchester Academic Health Sciences Centre, University of Manchester.
Professor Homer completed higher surgical training in ENT in Yorkshire, including a research fellowship in head and neck cancer leading to a doctorate degree. He completed a sub-specialty head and neck surgical oncology fellowship in Australia and was appointed Consultant Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Christie Hospital in 2002, with academic promotion to Professor in 2013.
His clinical practice encompasses all of head and neck and thyroid cancer, with a particular interest in conservation laryngeal surgery, sinonasal, and antero-lateral skull base cancers. He introduced surgeon performed neck ultrasound scanning in 2003 and runs an international course in neck ultrasound.
His research has centred around head and neck cancer. He has established the Manchester Head and Neck Research and Innovation Centre. He has published over 100 research papers and has supervised several MDs and PhD’s. He is an acknowledged opinion leader, contributing to many guidelines, conferences and professional societies and has had many leadership positions, locally, regionally, and nationally.
He is co-editor of the current (6 th Edition – 2024) UK Multidisciplinary Guidelines for Head and Neck Cancer and co-leads the NHS England National Cancer Program/GIRFT review of Head and Neck Cancer Services in England.
