Professor Peter John Wormald delivered his Semon Lecture on the 7th of November 2025 at the Royal Society of Medicine, entitled “The Past, Present and Future in Otorhinoloarygnology”. In his lecture he talked about the history and future of rhinology, including advances in instruments, imaging and management. He then went on to discuss the future of ENT training, focusing on how to teach surgical techniques and the importance of doing so.
Professor Wormald is a consultant in rhinology and skull base surgery at the University of Adelaide, Australia. He has written and contributed to a number of textbooks, including his sole author publication “Sinus Surgery: Anatomy, 3-Dimensional Reconstruction and Surgical Approach”. He has also published over 570 articles and contributed to a wealth of research, particularly in the area of chronic rhinosinusitis. Professor Wormald is a past President of the Australia and New Zealand Rhinologic Society and the recipient of numerous awards, including the American Rhinological Society Award for a significant contribution to rhinology.
