Born on the 5th of August 1937 in Middelburg, the Netherlands, Gordon Snow studied medicine at the University of Leiden. After a one year residency in general surgery and internal medicine at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, he completed a four year residency in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery at the Academic Hospital of the University of Amsterdam in 1968. From 1968 until 1977 he was consultant at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. In 1974 he was appointed associate professor at the department of Otolaryngology at the Free University, Amsterdam, of which he became Professor and Chairman from 1977 until his retirement in 2002.
